Kia Andell on väitöskirjatutkija Turun yliopiston Sosiaalitieteiden laitoksella. Hänen sosiologian väitöstutkimuksensa tarkastelee kummia kokemuksia tieteen julkisen ymmärryksen ja julkisen osallistumisen näkökulmista. Keskeisiä kysymyksiä ovat, miten kummat kokemukset muovaavat kokijoiden suhdetta tieteelliseen tietoon ja asiantuntijuuteen, ja millaista yhteiskunnallista osallistumista ne saavat liikkeelle. Andell on työskennellyt tutkijana mm. Suomen Akatemian rahoittamassa Mieli ja toinen -hankkeessa ja ollut ASLA-Fulbright-stipendiaattina Stanfordin yliopistossa.
Kia Andell is a PhD researcher in Sociology at the University of Turku. Her research examines uncanny experiences from the viewpoint of public understanding of / engagement with science, asking how uncanny experiences shape public perceptions of scientific knowledge and expertise and promote public involvement in science-related issues and controversies. Andell started her work in the project Mind and the Other, funded by the Academy of Finland and she has also done her research as an ASLA-Fulbright Pre-Doctoral Research Fellow at Stanford University.
