Indeed, dramaturgy has evolved into an influential sub-discipline in dance and choreographers often rely on dance dramaturges in constructing performances. Liesbeth Wildshut (2009) explores the role of the dance dramaturge as an ally for the choreographer. She notes that the professionalization of dance dramaturgy is gaining impetus with e.g. the Utrecht University now offering MA courses in dance dramaturgy (Wildschut 2009, 383).
