Leena Rouhiainen Preface

This proceedings documents the contents of several of the presentations held at the Perilous Experience? – Extending Experience Through Artistic Research CARPA 5 conference that was held between 31 August and 2 September 2017 at the Theatre Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki. Related to recent academic trends such as post-humanism, new materialism, process philosophy, object oriented ontology (OOO) and Actor-Network-Theory (ANT) the conference vision statement asked:How does research of the anomalous, through artistic means, help us relocate experience in a world that has multiplied by extending beyond all human-centred perspectives? How do we produce experience and retrace its limits through artistic research? The following texts with photos and links to conference renditions and other audio-visual material by 12 conference presenters including the keynote speakers answer to these questions each from their own perspective. They are informed and versatile research outputs on the anomalous and artistic research as well as reflect the engaging exchange and conversation that took place at the conference. Whilst this time the conference was arranged without any parallel sessions in order to ensure in-depth interaction and conversation, it still engaged a good number of participants. All in all, CARPA 5 was attended by 74 local and international delegates from 22 different countries. On behalf of the conference committee and organizers, I would like to thank all the participants and presenters. We hope you enjoy reading the following submissions!
