Henna-Riikka Halonen is a visual artist who uses a wide range of artistic techniques and historical and cultural references, including theater, literature, and cinema. Her works are often responses to a specific context or a site aiming to highlight our need to structure experiences as fictions in order to gain understanding of them. By creating worlds within worlds, her work explores our relationship to objects, words, and other living and non-living beings. Halonen graduated as a Master of Fine Arts from Goldsmiths College, London in 2006. She completed her a doctorate at the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki in 2019. Her doctoral research project, Throws of Dice, was a speculative spatial construct, an alternative labyrinthic infrastructure that was flexibly built within and as a response to the artworks it houses. She is currently a lecturer of contemporary art at the Turku School of Fine Arts.
